Culinary Encounters

Amidst a protracted crisis in Lebanon, mothers are increasingly struggling to put the right food on the table. Bedayati hosted a Healthy Body Healthy Mind community workshop in partnership with GIZ/Civil Peace Service about healthy living on a budget.
Youth from Bedayati researched good nutrition and spoke about the impact of nutrition on child development, mental health, and well-being. This was followed by an introductory session on family budgeting as a tool that mothers could use to make smarter financial choices and cook and eat healthily on a budget. Participants then moved to the kitchen for a practical cooking session, where mothers from diverse nationalities living in the same community shared culinary traditions and learned healthy cooking methods.
“Time passed quickly and we didn’t feel it. I did not expect this diversity in nationalities and that there would be this kind of harmony between us,” said one participant.
