Responding to Crisis: Support for Displaced Families & Healthcare
It’s been over four weeks of daily Israeli airstrikes against Beirut. In addition to the displacement of over 1.3 million persons, Lebanon is witnessing a “systematic dismantling of healthcare,” with at least 115 healthcare workers killed over the past year and most hospitals in border areas and in Dahieh shut down.
Amidst this escalation of hostilities, we urgently need to amplify our response efforts. So far we have supported in the following areas:
📌Food: We have provided over 31,000 hot and cold meals with fresh fruit and water to over 17 schools and non-formal shelters in Beirut, sourcing from local producers in as much as possible.
📌Kitchen equipment: We are upgrading two existing kitchens in schools by providing kitchen equipment and utensils. We have also provided 500 reusable plates and cutlery to reduce dependence on disposables.
📌Training: We are training focal points in shelters who are leading food preparation on basic food safety and hygiene. Three schools are now preparing their own breakfasts, with Bedayati providing the food supplies.
📌Recycling: We are separating our waste in an effort not to exacerbate the garbage crisis and are seeking more sustainable solutions for our organic waste.
📌Pre-loved clothes: We have collected and distributed over 300 winter clothing items, as well as baby clothes, cribs, and baby mattresses.
📌Medical support: We are referring requests for medical support to our partner @tahaddilebanon.
📌Skills: As an organization dedicated to widening access to education and skills training, we have also rolled out English classes in one of the schools we work with targeting women and youth.
Please join our efforts to ensure that temporary displacement does not prevent those affected from accessing their basic rights including to decent shelter, education, and autonomy.
